Hello world... map.

This is my first post. It will probably be the only post for a little while, until I have more to say and show.

I've recently been getting to grips with porting this GameMaker Studio 'lockdown' project to the much more elegant and extensible Godot game engine, and things have been going swimmingly.

I have almost got the core platforming/spelunking gameplay down to a tee, and have built the rudimentary systems for a basic Metroidvania -  dynamic mapping, inventory, upgrades, NPC dialogue, progress saving, and the incredibly exciting obligatory  'fetch me this thing to get another thing' and 'find a key to unlock a door' quests.

I have put together a simple small self-contained 'demo' that I am loathe to share here...  I need to develop my ideas for a unique twist to the gameplay, as well as some decent artwork, before I can consider that. Attached is a screenshot of my map screen though, featuring the eight single screen areas of my demo... the final game (which I hope to release on Windows, Mac and Linux) could potentially have over 500!

I'm now also contemplating whether I should include environment hazards and small critters that hamper your progress. I mostly want to avoid violence, but want to provide some challenge to the unwary.
